Business in the Bible

Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in every way and [that your body] may keep well, even as [I know] your soul keeps well and prospers.

lions_den_logoYou’ve seen Dragon's Den on TV, now you can be part of the Christian alternative - Lion's Den - which is being exclusively launched at the April 09 Engage Conference.

What is Lion's Den?

Lion's Den is an event made up of Individuals, from a variety of backgrounds. Their common purpose is to join with others in using their knowledge, skills, networks, services and material prosperity to assist Christian Entrepreneurs to develop and succeed in business.

What happens at an event?

Successful applicant’s address the audience and present plans for their business growth in the hope that gifts of time, prayer, expertise and finances are pledged. Each event includes the business presentations, Q&A between the audience and presenters, time to continue discussions with the presenters over refreshments, and an informal pledging session. Each member of the audience is entirely free to pledge support to all, some, or none of the projects presented on a given day.

Can I apply to present my business plan?

Yes. All delegates who fulfill the criteria below can apply for one of the four 5 minute presentation spaces available during Lion's Den. Simply fill out the online Application Form.

APPLICATIONS WILL ONY BE ACCEPTED BY INDIVIDUALS WHO:

  • attend a local church (with an affirming reference from your senior minister if deemed appropriate)
  • own their own business (or are looking to start one up)
  • fit into one of the selected categories (listed below)
What are the categories?
  • New business ideas: Looking to make it happen and see the dream become a reality.
  • Business start ups: Officially up and running but looking to get the business of the ground.
  • Healthy business: Business is stable, but looking to take it to the next level.
  • Struggling business: Finding it hard to stay afloat, maybe unable to win new business, facing tough competition.

Within these categories, both traditional and emerging business issues can be addressed. We are particularly keen to support small businesses that are finding it difficult to obtain necessary support and services.

How are successful applicants chosen?

Applications are reviewed by a select panel of Christians and are chosen with the following in mind:

  • the result of prayer over applications
  • the category applied for (aiming for as good a spread as possible)
  • the church that the applicant belongs to (aiming to get as many different churches represented as possible)
  • the results of a short telephone interview (if required due to a large number of applications being received)

Applications are only accepted on-line using our Application Form. The deadline for applications to be submitted is August 20th. Applicants will be e-mailed by August 27th to advise whether they have been successful or not. If unsuccessful, applicants are more than welcome to reapply for the next event.

"I was privileged to be part of the 'Lion's Den' session at the recent Engage Christian Business Conference. The response from the audience in terms of support, help and resources was overwhelming! The coaching and support alone is helping me take my business and my faith to the next level!"

How can I make a pledge?

Those registered to attend the event will receive written information on individuals or businesses presenting before the event day so they have a chance to do some initial reflection.

At the actual Lion's Den event you will receive a personal pledge card. At the end of each of the 5 minute presentations there will be a 10 minute Q&A time between the Lion's (the audience) and the presenter. During, or at the end of the presentations, you are given the opportunity to fill out your pledge card and submit it to the conference organisers. Before the end of the conference we will report back with the results!
